LATEST NEWS - July 10, 2009

Just a note to say thank you all for participating in the Inaugural 16U Champions Cup. I hope all of you are enjoying the games, the weather and the impressive showing of college coaches on the first day of pool play.

The champions cup would like to express a special thanks to SoCal Athletics-Ginnes and SoCal Pumas-Parker for going above and beyond and as a show of respect for the game and the participants by stepping in to play in the place of the vacancies. They each played three games on Thursday, July 9, and we really appreciated this and wanted to acknowledge our gratitude. Those of you who played them and will play them this weekend, please share your appreciation.

As a housekeeping note, please, please TURN IN YOUR SCORECARDS TO THE SOCAL ASA "BOOTH" near the snack bar immediately after each game. Find someone responsible on your team to do this!!! Especially during the last game at night. This is critical on Saturday night after the last game, because each of you will be waiting to see what time you will play on Sunday and the longer we have to wait for the scores, the later you will wait to see when you play.

April 3, 2009

It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the 6th Annual Champions Cup, which is elite, multi-divisional fastpitch softball event being held from July 15 – 19, 2009 in Irvine, California. The Champions Cup is organized and operated by the Southern California International Softball Festival and all net proceeds from this tournament will be deposited to a fund that will distribute awards directly to athletes that require financial assistance in the continuation of their college education.   2008 scholarships have been awarded.

The Champions Cup Junior Olympic Showcase will include top Gold and 18-Under teams from throughout the United States and Canada. Teams entered include the 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 ASA-USA Junior Olympic National Champions in both the 18U Gold and 18A divisions.  Many of these teams will participate as preparation for their National Championship tournaments in August.

This year will include a 16U Tournament consisting of 48 invitational teams.  The tournament starts Thursday,    July 9 – 13, 2009 and will be played at Harvard Athletic Park in Irvine, California.  For more information visit www.championscup.org

The Champions Cup will be hosted by the City of Irvine; centrally located in Orange County, California, and one of the prime vacation destinations in the United States. The Col. Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park and Harvard Athletic Park will again serve as the primary venues for all tournament activity.   We also want to thank the Irvine Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Bureau for their help in providing entertainment opportunities off of the softball field.

The Hyatt Regency of Irvine has agreed to return as one or our host hotels for the Managers Dinner on Tuesday, July 14, 2009.  The Crown Plaza (Irvine) provided extra help and support in making the Champions Cup the success that it was.  The Irvine/Orange County Airport Hilton is also providing support and lodging for this year’s Cup in addition to all the wonderful hotels listed in your welcome package and on our website www.championscup.org.

The Champions Cup is also pleased that Worth Sports and Ringor have chosen to remain as founding sponsors of the Champions Cup. These companies manufacture and represent the finest equipment and apparel available in fastpitch softball and have been tremendous supporters of the sport for many years. The Champions Cup is proud to join with them in continuing a new tradition in fastpitch softball.
