It is my distinct pleasure to
welcome you to the Fifth Annual Champions Cup, which is elite,
multi-divisional fastpitch softball event being held from July 16 – 20, 2008
in Irvine, California. The Champions Cup is organized and
operated by the Southern California International Softball Festival and all
net proceeds from this tournament will be deposited to a fund that will
distribute awards directly to athletes that require financial assistance in
the continuation of their college education.
All returning and Play-in
qualified team entry forms are now past due. The entry from can be found
under the JO Coach tab on the home page. The Champions Cup Junior Olympic
Showcase will include top Gold and 18-Under teams from throughout the United
States and Canada. Teams entered include the 2005, 2006, and 2007 ASA-USA
Junior Olympic National Champions in both the 18U Gold and 18A divisions.
Many of these teams will participate as preparation for their National
Championship tournaments in August.
The Champions Cup is
extremely pleased to announce that the USA Softball team will be
participating in an Exhibition game to be held Saturday, July 26, 2008.
This game may be your last chance ever to see an Olympic Softball
team play. It will also be the last exhibition game played in United
States, as part of the “2008 bound for Beijing Tour”. Our hopes and prayers
will go with the great players, coaches and parents that comprise United
States Olympic Softball. The Champions Cup wishes them continued success in
their date with Olympic glory and quest for a fourth consecutive Gold
Medal.
This year will also include the
newly formatted Play-In Tournament. In 2007, 5 berths were awarded for the
2008 Champions Cup. Only Top teams entered in the 2008 PIT will be used
to fill an open spot in the current year Champions Cup. Entry forms can be
found under the JO Coach Tab on the Home page.
The Champions Cup
will be hosted by the City of Irvine, centrally located in Orange County,
California and one of the prime vacation destinations in the United States.
The Col. Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park and Harvard Athletic Park
will again serve as the primary venues for all tournament activity.
We are happy to announce that The
Hyatt Regency of Irvine has returned to co-host hotel status along with
The Crown Plaza (Irvine). In 2007, both of these hotels provided extra help
and support in making the Champions Cup the success that it was.
The
Champions Cup is also pleased that Worth Sports, Schutt Sports,
and Ringor have chosen to remain as founding sponsors of the Champions
Cup. These companies manufacture and represent the finest equipment
and apparel available in fastpitch softball and have been tremendous
supporters of the sport for many years. The Champions Cup is
proud to join with them in continuing a new tradition in fastpitch softball.
